Assessments for Students

Assessments are categorized for you into different tabs: Active, Past Due, and Completed. Each of the tiles represents an assessment. Those with the person icon are individual assessments and those with the two people icon are group assessments. The due date and time of the assessment is also displayed.

Question Response Types

When you click on an assessment, you will see one or multiple question tiles displayed, depending on the number of questions in the assessment. Each tile has an icon indicating the response type: audio, multiple choice, screen share, simulated conversation, text, or video. An additional icon appears when a rubric is attached to the question. Click the rubric icon to see the rubric before beginning the question.

Limitations

Some questions might include limitations, for example:

  • Time to Review - Your preparation time to plan your response. When this timer expires, your response time will begin.

  • Time to Respond - The maximum time allotted for your response. Plan accordingly.

  • Media Playback - You might be limited on how many times you can playback an audio or video.

  • Number of Attempts - How many attempts you have to respond to a particular question. This number is displayed for you. Read more about Single Attempt questions below.

A pop-up is displayed with the question parameters.

Single Attempt Questions

If you open a Single Attempt question, be careful to avoid the following before submitting your response as it will become locked.

  1. Closing the browser

  2. Refreshing the page

  3. Click the 'Back' button

  4. Loss of internet connection

A red question tile is a locked question meaning it is no longer accessible to you unless it is unlocked by your instructor.

Navigation Warnings for Students

You may also encounter Navigation Warnings if you leave the Extempore window during an assessment. You may proceed with your response after checking the box and clicking continue.
