Recording your screen on Extempore as a student

There are a few specific directions to follow and items to know when recording your screen.

Sometimes on Extempore you may have to submit a response via a screen recording. There are few things to be aware of when submitting this type of response. Learn more below.

Responding to a Screen Recording Prompt on Extempore

Within an assessment on Extempore, you will see the question tile with the icon below. This indicates that the response requires a screen recording.

Immediately upon beginning the assessment, a popup will appear asking you which part of your screen you want to share. Choose either a tab, window, or your entire screen, then click share.

Note: Even upon clicking share in this popup window, your response has not begun to record yet. You must click RECORD within the Extempore page and then the recording will begin.

Click record to begin the recording, and submit your attempt once done.

  • Q: Why isn't my recording starting after I click "Share"?

    A: Clicking "Share" only enables screen sharing. You must click the "Record" button on the Extempore page to begin recording.

  • Q: How can I tell if my recording has started?

    A: After clicking "Record" on the Extempore page, you should see a recording indicator and timer appear on your screen.

  • Q: What should I do if I make a mistake during recording?

    A: For multiple-attempt questions, you can stop and restart the recording. However, for single-attempt questions, you must submit your response or risk losing the attempt. Always review your recording before submitting, especially for single-attempt questions.

  • Q: How do I submit my recording?

    A: Once you've finished your response, click the "Submit" button on the Extempore page to complete your attempt.
