Why a student doesn't see a class (archived classes)

When a student signs in and doesn't see an expected class, it's usually because the class has been archived.

Written by Sam Slagle

If a student signs in and doesn't see a class they're expecting, the most common reason is that the class has been archived by the teacher. Extempore now makes this clearer at sign-in so students (and support teams) can tell what's happening instead of assuming the class is missing.

Important: students can't access archived classes

Archiving a class removes it from the student's active class list. This new behavior only helps a student understand why an expected class isn't showing—it does not give students access to archived classes or their past work. Archived classes remain view-only for teachers and admins.

If a student still needs the class

If students should still have access, the teacher can restore the class. See Archive and restore a class.

Teachers and admins can still review submissions from archived classes—see How to access student work in archived and active classes.

If the class was never joined in the first place, confirm the student is enrolled—see Enrolling and creating student accounts.
