How to View and Manage Student Submissions and Recordings in Extempore
Managing student submissions and recordings is an essential task for teachers using Extempore. This guide will help you access both current and past student work effectively through the Gradebook interface.
Accessing Current Student Submissions
To view a student's submission and recordings for a specific assessment in Extempore:
Open the Gradebook from your Extempore dashboard.
Locate and select the relevant assessment.
Choose the specific student whose work you want to review.
View their submissions and recordings within the interface.
Accessing Archived Classes
If you previously archived a class in Extempore and need to access student work from it:
Click your username in the top right corner of Extempore.
Select Archived Classes from the dropdown menu.
Locate the archived class you need.
Click Restore to bring the class back to your active classes.
Once restored, you can access the Gradebook for that class as normal.
Understanding Unenrolled Students in the Gradebook
When students are unenrolled from a class (for example, due to schedule changes or LMS roster updates), Extempore retains their previous work for reporting purposes:
Unenrolled students appear in your Gradebook with a red highlight or grayed-out appearance to distinguish them from active students.
Their previous submissions, grades, and feedback remain visible.
This ensures you maintain access to historical data and can generate accurate reports.
Important Note for LMS Integrations:
Google Classroom: When you manually sync with Google Classroom and students have been removed from the GC roster, their submission data may be removed during the sync process. If you need to preserve student work, avoid syncing until you've exported necessary data.
Edlink integrations (Canvas, Schoology, etc.): Student data is typically preserved when students are unenrolled during nightly syncs.
Summary and Best Practices
Always use the Gradebook as your primary tool for accessing student submissions and recordings.
Restore archived classes through your username menu β Archived Classes.
Unenrolled students remain visible in the Gradebook (shown in red/gray) with their work preserved.
Be cautious with Google Classroom syncs if you need to preserve student data from unenrolled students.
Keep track of any routine archival processes announced by your district or organization to stay prepared.
By following these steps, you can ensure seamless access to both current and past student work in Extempore, supporting effective grading and assessment processes.
