Understanding the Gradebook

The Gradebook allows teachers to easily track progress, review submissions, view/edit scores or feedback, and export specific views without ever leaving the page. Learn more in the video below.


Color Coded Statuses & Icons

When you first open the Gradebook (and have student submissions) you'll see colored dots that represent the submission status. Click Show Key in the top right corner to show the key. See what you've done and what needs your attention at a glance.


Gradebook Settings

Click the βš™οΈ to open the Gradebook Settings menu. From here you can...

  • Export to CSV. Export all assessment scores, a single assessment, a single student, or all questions within a single assessment. The export will create a .csv of the current view of your Gradebook.

  • Show scores in table as points or percentage.

  • Save & Next student goes to: First ungraded question or same question.

  • Record both speaker audio and microphone: For leaving in line feedback. Learn more here.

Filter and Search

You can use the drop down menus to filter by class, assessment type, and timeline.

Use the search bar to filter by student or assessment names.


View Submissions

Select any colored cell to open the snap grader on the right side of the screen where you can view the submission, grade, provide feedback, and quickly navigate to the next student, question, or assignment.


View Recent Activity by Student

Select a students name in the left column to see the last five assignments they've completed on Extempore. Select the activity to view the submission, grade, or provided feedback.


View a Student's Account

View a student account by selecting the student's name and then clicking on View Account.


Gradebook FAQ

  • Q: How do I access the Snap Grader?

    A: You can access the Snap Grader by selecting any cell within the gradebook. This will open the Snap Grader on the right side of the screen.

  • Q: Can I provide both written and audio/video feedback?

    A: Yes, you can provide both types of feedback. Written feedback can be added in the comments section, while audio/video feedback can be recorded using the microphone or video icon in the same section.

  • Q: Is it possible to download student audio/video submissions?

    A: Yes, you can download media files. Click the down arrow to open the media in a new tab, then click the 3-dots menu and select "download".
