Extempore Live! assessments involve pairs or groups of students joining a virtual room (similar to Google Meet or Zoom) from their own devices at the same time to respond to a prompt.
1. Open the active Group Assessment
Group assessments have the partner and headset icons
2. Enter the Waiting Room
Read the assessment description.
Speak into your microphone to verify it is working. Check your camera, too. If you have any issues, click to access the troubleshooting steps. You must have a working camera to participate in an Extempore Live! Group Assessment.
Once your teacher opens the rooms, click Go To Room.
Wait for your partners to join.
If you cannot see yourself in the preview window, troubleshoot here.
If you leaves the room before your partner joins, your attempt will close and submit prematurely. Instructors can reset the attempt on the assessment page or gradebook, allowing students to re-enter and complete their recordings.
3. During the Assessment
You should see and hear your partner.
Read the prompt and complete the assignment with your partner(s) during the allotted time. There is no option to restart.
Use the toolbar underneath your video to mute, turn off your camera, raise your hand for help, submit your response, or hide self view.
Handling Premature Exits
Ensure all participants are present in the conversation room before starting or leaving the assessment to prevent closures.
If a closure occurs due to a premature exit, coordinate with your instructor for a reset and reattempt.
4. Completing the Assessment
Click leave room only when you have finished the task. The recording will be processed and sent to your instructor.
Leaving vs. Submitting
In Extempore Live! assessments, submissions are finalized only after the last participant leaves the room. Instead of a “Submit” button, students will see a "Leave the room" button. When all participants have recorded their responses and the final student exits, the group submission is automatically completed. This system ensures that participants’ recordings are properly aligned for grading and review.
When the last student leaves the room, the response is automatically submitted to the instructor. Students should ensure all assessments requirements are complete before exiting to avoid premature submissions.
