Google Classroom FAQ
Why can't I see my students rostered on Extempore?
The first time you synchronize a class from Google Classroom to Extempore, students will display at the bottom of the class page within Extempore as "pending" where you will only see their email. Students will show up on the Extempore roster when they respond to a question on the first assessment.
Will students see future assessments within Google Classroom?
Google Classroom only displays future assessments when the date/time hits. (*Note: we've noticed that future assessments will sometimes post 2-3 minutes after the scheduled time which is related to Google Classroom's functionality and not something Extempore can control.)
What if I need to update the assessment settings or questions on Extempore?
No problem! Updates to your assessments and/or questions will update the assessment on Google Classroom immediately.
Does any data not sync between Extempore and Google Classroom when updates are made?
The due date does not sync to Google Classroom because Extempore manages due dates independently. Our platform determines whether an assessment is closed after the due date or if late submissions are accepted based on your account preferences. Additionally, Google Classroom does not allow third-party tools to control submission closures, making a due date sync unnecessary. Since Extempore’s due date governs assessment behavior, we have chosen not to sync this field at this time.
The due date can be manually updated by the instructor from within Google Classroom and will not impact anything related to the Extempore assessment.
Why are there no grades for my assessment?
A rubric must be included on the Extempore assessment in order for a grade to sync to Google Classroom.
Why am I being asked to Authorize Extempore to synchronize with Google Classroom?
Authorizing the integration is required for your information to sync between the two systems. If you didn't authorize Extempore the first time, you'll need to sync again to authorize the integration. (Make sure all permissions are checked when you authorize.)
Why am I not seeing some of my classes in Extempore after clicking "Sync with Google Classroom"?
If you are not seeing one or multiple of your Google Classroom classes after clicking on the sync with Google Classroom button within Extempore, this means one of two things and can easily be resolved.
The class has been archived within Extempore. To check this, navigate to your username in the top right and then select archived classes. If the class you are looking for displays sync, simply restore the class and sync to Google Classroom.
If the class doesn't exist within the archived classes page within Extempore, the class must be archived or in a database different state other than active within Google Classroom. Please check Google Classroom and ensure the class is active. Once confirmed, re-sync Google Classroom to Extempore and the class should now be available.
Why are group assessments disabled from one or more of my Google Classroom classes?
Since students are not considered enrolled within Extempore until they access the first individual assessment from Google Classroom, we intentionally disable the group assessment option until at least one individual assessment exists.
As soon as you create the first individual assessment, you will be able to start creating group assessments. Best practice would be to wait until all students within the class have connected to the first individual assessment before creating group assessments to ensure all rostered students are part of a group.
