You can accommodate for students who have time extensions by watching the video and following the steps below.
Providing timing accommodations on Extempore
Step 1. Navigate to the desired class, scroll down to your student list, and Click the cog icon ⚙️ on the right side of the page for the given student.
Step 2. Click the button to activate time extensions, which will illuminate the numbers below.
Step 3. Determine how much additional time you would like the student to have for a given question. For time and a half, use 1.5x. For double time, use 2x. For all other instances, you can enter a custom extension multiplier.
Once timing extensions are set, the timing parameters will automatically adjust for this student for timed questions. You will also see the change reflected in your class roster.
See the chart below for an example of how extensions affect original response times.
Extra Time (Accommodations) | Review/Response for Standard Time Students | Review/Response for Extended Time Students |
1.5x | 1 minute | 1 minute 30 seconds |
2x | 1 minute | 2 minutes |
2.5x | 1 minute | 2 minutes 30 seconds |
Note: time extensions are only visible on teacher accounts, so students in your class will not know if anyone has an extension; only you will.
Configuring playback controls
Beneath the time limit extensions, you will also see a button to configure playback controls. To enable student playback controls, click to toggle it on (it will turn to blue). Now students will be able to control the playback speed within a question with media files attached. Click save to confirm your changes.
In the image below, you can see the playback controls on the left hand side of the media bar. The student can click the "-" or "+" icons to change the speed at which the media plays.
As a reminder, these playback controls will only display when the playback controls setting is toggled on for that student.
