Score conversion tables convert raw rubric scores into your district's grading scale. You define how raw points map to converted scores and performance bands, and Extempore shows the converted score in the Gradebook and student portal and sends the converted value to your LMS during grade sync.
Conversion tables work together with assessment-level rubrics. If you're new to rubrics, start with Rubrics on Extempore.
Create a conversion table
Open Manage Conversion Tables.
Create a new table and give it a name.
Define each row: the raw score range, the converted score, and the performance band (label and color).
Save the table.
Attach a conversion table to a rubric
Conversion tables attach to assessment-level rubrics.
Navigate to the Rubrics tab.
Edit an existing rubric or create a new one.
Select Conversion matrix at the bottom of the rubric create/edit page.
⚠️ Note: The conversion table maps to the rubric's maximum points, and the converted scale tops out at that rubric max. Avoid adding auto-scored questions (like multiple choice) to an assessment that uses a conversion table. The extra points push real totals above the converted maximum.
Attach a rubric with conversion table to an assessment
Open the assessment and edit its assessment-level rubric.
Select the rubric that has a conversion table to attach it.
Save the rubric.
Grade with a conversion attached
Grade the submission as usual. Extempore applies the conversion table automatically and displays the converted score on the graded submission.
Where converted scores appear
Gradebook: the converted score is the grade of record for the assessment.
Student portal: students see the converted score alongside its performance band. See the Performance Bands article.
LMS grade sync: the converted value is what passes to Google Classroom and Edlink. The total possible points sent matches the conversion table maximum.
