This is part three of a series on Synchronous Group assessments.

Part I - How to create a Synchronous Group assessment
Part II - Before the assessment: Take attendance & adjust rooms

Part III - During the assessment: Drop in & reset a room

After taking attendance and arranging rooms, direct students to begin the assessment. Follow these steps:

Drop in

Teachers can join rooms to interact with students during the assessment. Students can see and hear you when you are in the room.

  • Click the Drop In button to open the Drop In Dashboard.

From this dashboard, teachers can view which students are in each group, their status, and what time each room started the task. The green dot 🟒 next to a student's name means they are online, while a gray dot βšͺ means not online.

Teachers can join a room by clicking the Join button. Some teachers prefer to drop in on multiple rooms during the assessment, while others prefer to remain on this screen in case a student raises their hand to request help.

Reset a Room

Occasionally, you may need to reset a room.

Rooms close if (a) a student enters the room alone and leaves, (b) the timer has expired, or (c) the assessment is no longer active. You may also need to reset a room if you have a false start (a student enters the room too early, a student is paired with an absent student, etc.).

You can reset a room directly from the Drop In Dashboard by clicking Reset, or reset the submission from the Gradebook.

Follow these steps:

  • Direct students to back out of both the assessment and the waiting room. You cannot reset the assessment if students are still inside.

  • Reset the room.

  • Ask students to refresh their screen, then navigate to the assessment.
