Extempore Live! assessments involve pairs or groups of students joining a virtual room (similar to Google Meet or Zoom) simultaneously from their own devices to respond to a prompt.
1. Open the active Group Assessment
Group assessments have the partner and headset icons
2. Enter the Waiting Room
Read the assessment description.
Speak into your microphone to verify it is working. Check your camera, too. If you have any issues, click to access the troubleshooting steps. You must have a working camera to participate in an Extempore Live! Group Assessment.
Click Go To Room when directed by your teacher.
If you cannot see yourself in the preview window, troubleshoot here.
If you leave the room before your partner joins, your attempt will close and submit prematurely. Instructors can reset the attempt on the assessment page or gradebook, allowing students to re-enter and complete their recordings.
3. During the Assessment
You should see and hear your partner.
Read the prompt and complete the assignment with your partner(s) during the allotted time. There is no option to restart.
Use the toolbar underneath your video to mute, turn off your camera, raise your hand for help, submit your response, or hide self-view.
4. Completing the Assessment
Click Leave Room or Submit only when you have finished the task. When all participants have recorded their responses and the final student submits or exits the screen, the group submission is automatically completed. This system ensures that participants’ recordings are properly aligned for grading and review.
Every student sees Leave Room.
The last student in the room sees Submit.
